Body Building Myths to Avoid
Body building is one of the fitness regimes and exercise techniques that have a great deal of myths circulating
around it. Over the years many non-experienced people have taken it upon themselves to speak their mind about what
they believe body building to be and from here word spreads and changes and myths are created. If you are a skinny
guy who is looking to build muscle mass than there is nothing more important than taking control of these myths and
finding out what is fact and what is fiction. When you begin any type of training method without the truth about
the techniques you are using you could be risky your safety as well as the benefits of results. Take a look at the
different and most popular body building myths below and make sure you know the truth!
- Train like a bodybuilder to build muscle: This is perhaps one of the number one myths circulating today and
one that millions of men have taken as the truth and did what they could to clone the training methods of the
professional body builders. This is incredibly dangerous to your health and body safety and should never be
tried by anyone. If you are not a professional body builder than how can you be expected to train like one? The
training methods a professional body builder uses will have absolutely no affect on someone looking to gain
muscle mass as these men are working to maintain and further develop muscle they already have. You will find
this myth most commonly circulated through body building magazines, please for your own benefit do not follow
this advice. Spending thousands of dollars on vitamins and spending hours at the gym conducting the wrong
exercises is only going to inhibit you further.
- Train for “muscle pump”: A muscle pump is an exercise technique that has been used for decades but it not
necessarily effective. This is a technique when you put your muscles under constant strain and pressure in
order to stretch them so they fill up with blood and feel fuller and tighter. A lot trainings swear by this
technique and are sure that they are filling their muscles with more and more nutrients, however the truth is
this is now how muscle mass is built. All this technique does is trap the blood in the muscle which is how the
tight and “pumped” look is achieved. This is neither healthy nor long term. As a beginner it is important to
avoid this technique altogether.
- Training until you can’t train anymore: This is a technique that has been utilized and misinterpreted for
years. This basically means that you need to lift weights until you have nothing left and physically cannot
lift one more repetition. Many men who are new to body building should not utilize this technique as there are
no principles outside the gym that collaborate with this idea. When you see construction workers or marathon
runners you never see them collapsing or dropping their tools on the work site out of pure exhaustion, these
comparisons should show you just how false this training method really is. Over killing your muscles in this
way is not the way to success. Over time your muscles will adapt to the weights you are lifting, gain strength
and allow you to lift more and more weights. It is a gradual and progressive process to building muscle
mass.
Understanding the difference between fact and myth is extremely important in the fitness world today. There are
so many people who think they are body building professionals who distribute their opinions freely but may not be
distributing facts, only opinions and creating wide spread myths. Take the time to research what you believe to be
true and just like the myths that have been uncovered above, you will find your own beliefs have been mixed with
myths over the years.
